Choosing the right spot to learn in is critical for a happy learning experience.
We’ve taught and kited in many spots around the world and our favourites have several important factors in common.
- Light to moderate winds ( 10 – 20 knots)
- Reliable, stable winds – preferably side onshore or side shore.
- Knee – Waist deep water, the bigger the area the better.
- No crowds.
- Minimal Hazards
- Friendly, helpful local crowd.
Our favourite spot is Isla Holbox in Mexico as it fulfils all of these requirements and it’s the reason we return year after year.

Calshot in the UK is a fantastic spot also – Give Paul a ring at Nomadic kitesurf
Between May and October we highly recommend Sri Lanka. Winds here are super reliable with a steady 16-23 knots most days blowing over shallow flat lagoons. If you want a bit of luxury whilst you’re away check out Alankuda Kiteschool, it’s based inside Bar Reef Resort.
